Gleason’s Tater Town Special is one of the most popular annual events in Tennessee. The event is held every Labor Day weekend and features family festivities and parades. Town organizers started the event to honor the region’s valuable sweet potato crop and to pay tribute to the local farming industry.

A junior parade and a grand parade are featured each year. Prominent members and groups within the community march in each parade along with a series of decorated floats. A new Grand Marshal is also selected every year.

Family activities, music acts and other forms of entertainment are presented each day of the festival. Gospel choirs and local bands are among the music acts. Festival attendees can also take part in bingo tournaments, art workshops and a 5k fun run. An antique tractor and truck show features a collection of stylish vehicles with a vintage flare. A thrilling rodeo is presented as well. There is also a sweet potato bake-off with cash prizes awarded. Barbeque enthusiasts can additionally try their luck by entering the festival’s barbeque cook-off.

Families and community members can bond and share special times by attending the annual Tater Town Special in Gleason, Tennessee.
